ELC Spotlight: Hingham
At our Hingham Early Learning Center,
there’s a hidden gem that transforms playtime
into an imaginative experience that grows and
evolves with our students. That special place
is our state-of-the-art natural playground
and nationally certified outdoor classroom
which takes creative play to a whole new
level. When students come outside, they
know they have an open invitation to explore
in a space that is intentionally designed to
spark curiosity, independence, and imaginative
play.
While fun is always the goal, our natural playground
also supports key aspects of early childhood
development. Uneven terrain such as log paths
and rock-climbing structures helps build strength,
coordination, and resilience, and time spent outdoors
digging in the dirt and observing the natural
environment encourages critical thinking and fosters
a deeper connection to nature from an early age.
The space in our outdoor classroom is always
changing so there’s something new to find every
time you visit. Inspired by new ways of playing every
day, our students are constantly building new areas
for each other to explore and updating existing areas
to fit their interests in the moment. It’s nothing short
of a magical space where children can simply be
children – curious, creative, and joyfully engaged with
their friends and the world around them.
